Dental Exams & Cleaning

Dental Exams & Cleaning

The health of your teeth and mouth is critical to the overall health of your body, and while routine brushing and flossing at home are required to maintain your smile looking its best, visiting our dentist for a full evaluation and cleaning is required. At Primera Dental, we recommend that you visit your dentist every six months to keep your teeth healthy and your smile looking great.

What Are Dental Exams?

They are standard tests used in general and preventive dentistry to assist patients to maintain good dental health. A physical exam is usually useful for gathering information about your oral health to compile a dental health record. It is also the first place to begin when evaluating your dental health before making any diagnosis. However, if our dentist detects an oral condition or an indication of one, additional tests will be required.

What Is Dental Cleaning?

A thorough cleaning of your teeth, gums, and mouth will be one of the most crucial aspects of your dental checkup. A regular adult cleaning is provided in the absence of gum disease. If gum disease exists, more thorough cleaning of the gums may be required. Routine checks every 6 months are normally recommended to ensure your health. Dental cleanings include the following:

  • Getting rid of any plaque and tartar
  • Brushing your teeth
  • Flossing the spaces between your teeth
  • Examining suggested brushing and flossing methods
  • Fluoride therapy is used to strengthen tooth enamel and protect it from decay.

Why Are Dental Exams and Cleanings Needed?

Dentist exams are routine check-ups to ensure the health of your teeth and gums. Dental hygienists remove plaque and tartar that regular brushing and flossing cannot. Exams and cleanings are essential components of checkups and should be conducted every six months.

The Benefits of Routine Exams and Cleanings

  • Dental checkups assist the dentist to detect dental problems before they worsen.
  • Dental checkups and cleanings help to keep teeth and gums healthy.
  • The sooner a problem is identified by the dentist, the more likely it can be treated using easy, non-invasive methods.
  • Regular exams and cleanings protect your oral health, which in turn protects your overall health. Poor oral health increases one's risk of developing chronic health problems, such as heart disease.
  • It is frequently less expensive to prevent a problem than it is to address it.

Caring for Your Smile Between Visits

To keep your results lasting between checkups, brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, floss once a day, and limit sugary snacks and drinks. If your gums bleed easily or you notice sensitivity after your cleaning, this is usually temporary, but let us know if it persists so we can check for underlying gum concerns.

Insurance & Financing Options

Primera Dental accepts Medi-Cal, so routine exams and cleanings are accessible to families across Lynwood and nearby communities. We also partner with Cherry to offer flexible financing if additional treatment is recommended during your visit.
